I began my real estate career in South Padre Island, where I grew up. I love it there, and I vacation there, taking my dogs to the beach and enjoying the seafood and pizza. To read about my feelings about my hometown, check out my South Padre Island blog entry. As an agent on the island with intimate knowledge of the landscape, my referring clients told new clients to -- Just call Carmen.
The tagline stuck.
Truthfully, I love San Antonio for many reasons, even just because of a favorite restaurant or a superior margarita in a particular location - I have a reason for memory in each area.
San Antonio is easy to navigate, thanks to two major highways forming a concentric ring: 1604 on the outer ring and Interstate 410 in the interior. These are fed by Interstate 10 (I-10) to El Paso and Houston, I-35 to Laredo and Austin, and I-37 to Brownsville/South Padre Island. Locals often refer to locations by north side, south side, west side, and east side, as well as the areas nearest 1604, like north-central and far west. Throughout the city, you'll find neighborhoods with diverse price ranges featuring homes and lots ready for new residents or houses waiting for the TLC of a new owner looking to remodel.

My Favorite Areas and Neighborhood Communities
- Schertz and Cibolo, because it is out in the country.
- Alamo Heights, Olmos, and Terrell Hills are like little Mexico. They have diverse restaurants, my favorite being La Paloma Blanca because of its margarita. I like mission-style architecture houses with rock walls, which remind me of the missions along San Antonio's Mission Trail.
- Like the Alamo Heights and Olmos areas, Stone Oak is its own little world with similar architecture and a more modern feel.
- New Braunfels is a favorite of mine, not because of Wurstfest, but because I went to the festival with my husband when we were courting - click on the New Braunfels photo below to search homes for sale in New Braunfels.
- Chris, my husband, and I got married in Bandera, and my father Juan, God rest his soul, loved sitting by the Medina River in the park next to a big Texas oak.
- Cordillera Ranch is a beautiful open landscape, while The Dominion reflects more prominent trees and shorter, rolling hills.
- My home is Helotes, in a neighborhood called Helotes Park Estates. Our home was built in the early 1960s and, after a long remodel, is taking on a fresh, modern appeal. The neighborhood remains quiet, and from time to time, deer are welcomed onto our front lawn. Thankfully, the Grey Moss Inn reopened in Grey Forest with wonderful new owners from either Monterey or Mexico City. I don't recall seeing the old olive twists on the menu, but I love their nachos.
